According to the U.S. based National Bureau of Economic Research, recession is a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months. It is normally visible in GDP growth, real personal income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales. As years go by, some business and investment glossaries add to the general definition that recessions are often indicated by two consecutive quarters of contraction of gross domestic product.
There have been and are still many discussions between various business owners, marketers and professionals all over U.S if we really are in a state of recession. World leaders are still deliberating in order to determine whether or not we are indeed in that unstable and detrimental state.. Nevertheless, it does bring up a sensitive issue for many businesses. There were questions that have started to come up such as, “Should I continue putting in money on marketing? Or should I set back those overheads until the economy is at a better state?”
Branding is the Key
In these tough times, it is important to maintain a stable base, especially now that growth and stability are primordial questions in a company’s existence. When these two factors are in question, the thoughtless reaction for many businesses is to back off on their marketing labors until a bull market returns. In fact, marketing your business at times of recession is an intelligent move. The key is to avoid being pessimistic and try to look at the underlying positive results that can spring from an economic downturn. Companies with bigger budgets might consider spending more on marketing, compared to the rest that have limited resources. This opportunity can be utilized to put down the competition and get more sales and proceeds. If your product or service meets the demands, then you are already leading the game. Customers are vigilantly weighing their options and will persist in searching for high-quality, reasonably priced merchandise and services.
It is likely that your competition will be less visible since many companies just hold back and fail to realize the less obvious opportunities that downturns offer. Therefore, they leave potential market share on the table. Therefore, your business will stand out in the market due to your unwavering marketing efforts.
The same principle applies to promoting a website at times of recession. There are countless business owners that make use of websites as their means of communicating with their prospective customers and targeting their audience. A website provides double visibility for your business and serves as a bridge in getting through to your prospective customers. It also allows you to generate substantial passive income online and establish your brand. Now is the perfect time for marketers who honestly know the in and outs of search engine marketing to provide help to these companies in marketing their websites. They should be able to convey to companies that the best way to gain the fruitful clicks of online shoppers is to gain the widest exposure they can possibly have. The marketer’s goal is to make the companies understand that now is the best time to promote your website with affordable SEO.
Reaching your Audience
Sometimes, you may be in awe if your audience will continue to patronize your products or services when times are rough. If you were able to establish your brand, your supporters will absolutely continue to support and patronize your product and services. Websites greatly contribute in establishing your brand and reaching out to your customers so it is imperative to heighten your visibility at all times, even if we are said to be in bear market. With so many options available, you can always start with economical SEO packages to “test the water” before committing to a long-term marketing campaign and making a larger investment. Many people believe that search engine marketing can be employed for retention, value and growth.
Always remember that the economy will bounce back eventually. What you can do to keep your audience and make them come back to you when the economy bounces back is to continuously market your website. Those that fail to put effort in or reduce their marketing efforts in a downturn have a much harder time recovering once the economy turns around.
In hard times, it is vital to promote trust and rapport between you and your customer, to understand their behaviours and needs, and to always be ready in addressing their concerns. Never stop building your brand and worth in the market. Do not stop promoting your website as this will help your business endure any economic downturn.
The threat of recession leads many to be reactive. Be optimistic and think of ways to convert this recession to an opportunity. By doing so, your company will come out stronger and long-standing.

The reason so many people fail online so quickly is because they don’t get traffic, at least not enough of it.
The problem is, people end up spending money on advertising without making much (if any) profit back, or they simply spend so much time trying to get free traffic they burn themselves out.
It's a fact that, once you're successful you can pay someone to get you the traffic, but how do we get out of the never ending cycle of trying to get traffic without wasting time and money?
Well, I am going to start with the fundamental tasks that you should focus on first, then we’ll take it from there…
1. Directory submissions.
This can be achieved using automated submission software or can be done by hand. It's a little dull but will result in a lot of backlinks to your website for better visibility in the search engines. This is pay off as you add more content and back links to your site.
2. Social bookmarking.
This is about submitting links to the major Web 2.0 social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Propeller and Reddit (to name just a few). The great thing is you can use software such as socialmarker.com to make the process far easier. You can also get inexpensive software to automate the whole process.
The benefit of social bookmarking your content is so that you gain back links from these authority sites (which is essential for being found in the search engines) but also, if you content is worthwhile and interesting, you increase the chances of your submission being passed around other readers really quickly, which can of course result in a lot of traffic to your website.
3. Back links.
Back links are the backbone of getting your pages listed high in the search engines. The more people link to your site naturally (i.e. without being paid or listing your site in some sort of link farm where the site linking to you is junk), then the better your rankings will be in the search engines. Not to mention the direct traffic that will come from the actual links from other sites too.
4. Collaboration.
Most people want to be the “one person wonder” or the sole entrepreneur in their business, which is fine. However, don’t underestimate the sheer power of teaming up with other well established websites directly and offering your content, help or other services in exchange for some exposure to your own website.
The classic “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” effect comes into play here and trust me, it works like a charm providing you genuinely approach people to help them first.
There are of course, many other ways to start getting traffic to your site such as writing articles like this one, or getting involved with many of the Web 2.0 properties out there online today. The more social you become with your website at other people’s parties, the more people will come to your party when you come to tell them about it…just like real life isn’t it?
I’ve only scratched the surface of getting heavy volumes of traffic to your website. If you’d like to know more about using the new wave of traffic inducing methods to really get your business off the ground, then check this out:

I have some modern advertising methods to share…in order to make more sales and profits. Please note, if you’ll give surfers too many things to do (at the same time), they’ll go in confusion.
Take a look below at my suggestions. You can do what you want!
1. Add a message board to your web site. People will visit your web site to ask questions and answer other people’s questions.
My comment: YOU MUST INVEST YOUR TIME. If you place a message board, you need lot of traffic first, and you need to manage it everyday (it can be a WASTE of time ).
2. Add a directory of web site links to your web site. People will visit your web site to find related web site links for the topic they’re interested in.
My comment: NICE! (very helpful to grow your traffic)
3. Add an article section to your web site.
People will visit your web site to read and learn new info related to their interests.
My comment: WHY NOT! But use articles related to your target & business (which topics are related to your main site?).
4. Add a free ebook directory to your web site. People will visit your site to download, study and read new information.
My conclusion: can be wrong. Take care of your visitors cause they are important. Give them something good, and give them a good chance to return on your site but do not point all your strategies to free stuff…
5. Add a free classified ad section.
People will visit your web site to place their own classified ad and to read other offers.
My comment: GOOD! Use automatic scripts that manage all things for you and save your precious time.
6. Add an “about me” page to your web site.
People will visit your web site to read about your business and yourself.
My comment: it depends from your site topic. If you build a site fully of articles, you can avoid it. People will be interested to read the articles placed into your site…so, you can avoid the “about me” page.
7. Add a guest book to your web site.
People will visit your web site to leave their opinions about your business and to list their signature file.
My comment: Not recommended. It’s a waste of time.

The 4 Things You Need to Have in Your Website Articles!
The importance of having articles in websites today, is vital for all internet marketers to be successful. They dictate a lot toward the success and the drive of traffic into one’s site. They are also an important part of your site, in regards to making a profit. If you are a web owner or site operator then the articles you use, will need to work with your topic and you need to have a strong inclination, on which to use and where to use them.
Articles have been known to be the driving force in generating traffic to a website. Articles are a factor in giving site high rankings on search result pages. To get the best traffic, you will need to rank as high as you can, on the search engine listing. Because of the large amount of traffic flow, there is more opportunity to make money with other income generating methods too.
It is not just about stuffing your site with articles, they have certain requirements as well. In order to get the most benefits from your articles, your site will need to have each of the requirements. A well written article will catch the eyes and interest of your customers and keep them coming back for more. By enticing them in this way, they will be more willing to recommend your site to others.
The following tips will help you as you develop the articles you use.
1. Keywords and Keyword Phrases.
The keywords and keyword phrases that you use should always focus around your article. As each website visitor goes to a site, there are those who merely browse and others that are actually looking for a specific topic. When this happens, a searcher usually goes to a search engine and types in the keywords they are looking for; e.g. Toyota Camry, Meningitis, Tax Lawyer and Etcetera, or it could be anything they want.
That is why it is imperative to have keywords in your article that are related to your site. For example, if you maintain an auto parts site, you must be able to have articles about cars and their parts. There are many tools on the internet that provides service in helping a webmaster out in determining, what keywords and keyword phrases are mostly sought out. These resources will help you determine the keywords to use in your article.
2. Keyword Density
Now that you have your keywords and keyword phrases, you must use them fully. Having effective keyword density is essential in order for a search engine to be aware of it.
Articles should at least have ten to fifteen percent of keyword density in their content, for search engines to rank a site high in their search results. Good articles are the best way to move up in ranking.
Basically keyword density is just the number of times you use a keyword or keyword phrase in your article. The number varies depending on the number of words used in an article. Make sure to not make your article keyword density too high or even too low. With a very high density, the essence of the article is lost and may turn off a reader, as well as the search engines, especially if it comes off as overeager.
But if you do not use enough keywords, then the search engines may not pick up your article.
3. Good Articles
Having good content is another reason why keyword ’overkill’ is a bad idea. They must also be regarded as good reading materials. Articles must be able to entertain people as well as provide good information and help for their needs. Articles should be written well with correct spelling and good grammar. If you want people to trust you, make your work good and well thought out.
People respond well to figures, facts and statistics. Providing them with a lot of factual information will better keep their attention. You should make it a goal to be an expert on your chosen topic and to portray that in your article. As more people believe in you, they will be able to trust you and your products.
Another important thing to remember, if you are going to submit articles to ezines and/or contribute your articles to newsletters and other sites, DON’T ever forget to include a link to your site.
It is a good idea to have a small information box with information on your site, placed toward the end of the articles that you have in submission. People who enjoyed your article, will most likely want to see more and will click on the link redirecting them back to your site.
